Independent, third-party testing proves that full-size Vitamix® machines break the cell walls of blended food. This is possible through the power, precision, and consistency that define Vitamix true high-performance blending. Each Vitamix blender is designed as a complete and efficient system—from the motor to the container and the blade assembly. The shape of the container continuously moves food toward the blades, which are integrated into the container and are made from hardened, high-grade stainless steel for durability.

Why is it important to consumers that your blender breaks cell walls?

The ability of full-size Vitamix blenders to achieve cell lysis (breaking cell walls) illustrates their power and performance. Food and beverages produced in a Vitamix machine exhibit superior smoothness and thorough homogenization of whole-food ingredients.

What evidence do you have that full-size Vitamix machines break cells walls?

Vitamix partnered with McCrone Associates, an accredited research laboratory, to conduct these tests. The testing showed that apples, spinach and peanuts blended individually in a Vitamix blender for one minute each yielded mixtures that displayed no intact cell structures when viewed under a microscope. The Vitamix machine successfully disrupted the cell walls of all three food items.

Does the ability to break cell walls mean that food prepared in a Vitamix blender is healthier than that produced in other machines?

To date, there have been no definitive research studies showing that cell wall breaking leads to increased bioavailability of nutrients in blended food and beverages.

Do you plan to conduct research to answer the question of whether cell wall breaking leads to greater release and absorption of nutrients?

Such a study is significantly more costly and complex than the laboratory testing that confirmed the ability of Vitamix machines to disrupt cell walls. We continually scan the literature for secondary research addressing the question, and are open to partnering with others to conduct this type of study in a thorough and cost-effective manner.
